Asymmetric estimates and the sum-product problems

چکیده

We show two asymmetric estimates, one on the number of collinear triples and other that solutions to $(a_1+a_2)(a_1^{\prime \prime }+a_2^{\prime })=(a_1^\prime +a_2^\prime )(a_1^{\prime })$. As ap

Sum–product estimates for well-conditioned matrices

We show that if A is a finite set of d× d well-conditioned matrices with complex entries, then the following sum–product estimate holds |A+A| × |A · A| = Ω(|A|).

Some Problems Related to Sum-product Theorems

The study of sum-product phenomena and product phenomena is an emerging research direction in combinatorial number theory that has already produced several striking results. Many related problems are not yet fully understood, or are far from being resolved. In what follows we propose several questions where progress can be expected and should lead to advances in this general area. For two finit...

Approximation Algorithms for Max-Sum-Product Problems

Many tasks in probabilistic reasoning can be cast as max-sum-product problems, a hard class of combinatorial problems. We describe our results in obtaining a new approximation scheme for the problem, that can be turned into an anytime procedure. For many tasks, this scheme can be shown to be asymptotically the best possible heuristic.
